The module decides whether the banding reads.
Travertine is a horizontal material. Every joint you add is a place where the band stops, and the eye notices the stop before it notices the stone.
Tiles give a regular grid, more joints and lower handling weight. Large panels at 3200 × 1600 mm keep the banding continuous and cut the joint count by roughly two thirds, at the cost of lifting equipment and tighter substrate tolerance.

When tiles are right
Small rooms with many openings, a tight access route, a tight budget, or a design that wants a visible grid. A tile grid on a floor is a legitimate pattern; on a banded travertine wall it usually fights the material.
When panels are right
A lift lobby, a reception wall, a facade, a long corridor. Anywhere the banding should run uninterrupted and the joints should be invisible. Panels also reduce the number of places where water enters on an exterior wall.
Questions buyers ask
- Are large travertine panels harder to install?
- They need lifting equipment, but there are fewer pieces and fewer joints. Once access is planned, the programme is usually shorter than a tile layout.
- Do panels cost more per square metre?
- The panel usually costs more to handle and ship; the tiling labour and the joint treatment cost less. The two tend to converge on a large area.
- Can panels and tiles be used in the same room?
- Yes, if the joint between them is detailed as a deliberate line rather than a change of level. Mixing modules without a line reads as a mistake.
