A floor is a different specification from a wall.
Point loads, trolley wheels, grit and water. A 20 mm wall panel is not a floor panel, and the finish that looks best on a wall is often the wrong one underfoot.
Travertine look flooring uses 25 or 30 mm panels with a filled face, laid on a prepared screed with a joint layout set to the room. The filled face closes the pores so grit and spills do not lodge; open pore is for walls, not floors.
Why 25 or 30 mm
Floor panels take point loads that wall panels never see: a chair leg, a pallet truck, a dropped tool. Thickness buys bending capacity and edge strength at the joint, which is where a floor panel fails first. A 20 mm panel is a wall or facade product.

The finish decides the maintenance
A honed filled surface is the practical floor finish: matte enough to hide footprints, closed enough to wipe. An open-pore floor collects grit in the pits and is effectively a dirt trap. Avoid a high polish anywhere water can stand.
Joint layout on a floor
On a 3200 × 1600 panel the joints can be set to the room rather than to a tile module: a joint on the door line, a joint under a change of level, and no narrow offcut at a wall. Movement joints follow the structure, not the panel grid.
Questions buyers ask
- What thickness for travertine look flooring?
- 25 mm for residential work, 30 mm for lobbies and retail where point loads are higher. 20 mm is a wall and facade specification.
- Is it slippery?
- A honed matte surface has good grip. Slip resistance depends on the finish and on contamination, not on the stone name; a polished surface of any material is a risk when wet.
- Can it go over underfloor heating?
- Yes, provided the assembly and adhesive are specified for it and the heating is commissioned gradually. The panel has low thermal movement but the screed does not.
