Grey travertine solves the north-facing room.
A warm white in a room with no direct sun reads flat and slightly dirty. A cool grey reads deliberate.
Silver Travertine is a cool grey cast travertine with fine horizontal banding, produced at 3200 × 1600 mm in 20, 25 or 30 mm, in open-pore or filled faces. It is used where the light is cool or indirect, and in schemes built around grey and black metal.
When grey is the right answer
The contrast problem
Fine banding on a mid-grey has low contrast, so the pattern almost disappears at distance. That is usually the intent, but it means the wall is read as a flat plane, and every joint and every lighting scallop becomes visible. On a grey scheme, the lighting design does more work than the stone.
Faces
The open-pore face gives the grey a mineral, chalky character that suits industrial schemes. The filled face is more even and better in wet areas and on facades, where the pores would collect dirt and read as speckle.
Questions buyers ask
- Which travertine shade suits a grey scheme?
- Silver Travertine. It is the only cool shade in the range, with fine banding that reads as texture rather than pattern.
- Does grey travertine look cold in a living space?
- It can, under warm lighting with warm timber. In residential rooms it usually works best on one wall rather than the whole envelope.
- Is it available in 30 mm?
- Yes. All three shades are produced in 20, 25 and 30 mm at 3200 × 1600 mm.
