The first hour decides the wall.

Check the substrate and set the datum before the first panel comes out of the crate. A 3.2 m panel does not forgive a wall that was never flat.

Line, level, joint

Install cast travertine by checking substrate flatness, setting out the joint grid from the main sight line, then either bonding with a cementitious adhesive indoors or fixing on brackets with a drained cavity outdoors. Panels are set to the grid, checked for line and level, then joints are completed and the wall inspected.

Handling a 3.2 m panel

A 20 mm panel of 5.12 m² weighs about 215 kg. Two people cannot carry it; a vacuum lifter or a frame is required, and the lifting route has to be planned before the panels arrive on site. Lifting in wind is a stop condition on an exterior elevation.

Questions buyers ask

Can travertine look panels be installed by a tiler?
A tiler can bond 20 mm panels indoors on a flat wall. Large format panels at 215 kg need lifting equipment and a two-person team, and exterior work needs a facade contractor familiar with bracket systems.
What adhesive is used?
A cementitious adhesive rated for the panel weight, applied with full coverage. Dispersion adhesives are not appropriate for a cementitious panel of this mass.
How wide should the joints be?
8 to 12 mm is typical for large format. On a floor the joint is set to the room; on a facade it is set with the baffle or gasket detail.
